Rev. James Kimmel
Rev. James Kimmel began serving Tabernacle as Associate Pastor for Music & Worship on January 15, 2018, following a unanimous congregational vote of support during a called church conference on November 12, 2017. He felt called to ministry at a young age, soon after becoming a Christian, and has enjoyed seeing God’s faithfulness as he has pursued this calling. James is passionate about bringing people closer to God as they participate in worship, enabling the local church to realize unlimited potential, unifying the Body of Christ through multigenerational worship gatherings, nurturing gifts as they are used for God’s glory, and creating lifelong worshippers.
A native of Dallas, Texas, James grew up involved in many music activities at church and school. He was involved in preschool, children’s, and youth choirs and each experience was formative thanks to many mentors at First Baptist Church, Dallas, his home church. After graduating high school, James studied at Baylor University and holds two degrees- a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Church Music. While at Baylor, he served several churches in Waco as an accompanist and Minister of Music. James was licensed to the gospel ministry by FBC Dallas and ordained by Chalk Bluff Baptist Church.
After graduation from Baylor, he served FBC Richardson, TX and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. James married Christen in 2011, and they are the parents of Elizabeth Joy and Katelyn Leigh. Christen is also a Baylor graduate with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and has served as a middle school choir teacher and private voice instructor. James and Christen enjoy traveling, playing with their children, and cheering on the Baylor Bears.
