Senior Pastor

Jimmy Gentry became Senior Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Carrollton, GA on Sunday, December 31, 2000 after a five and one-half year pastorate at Springfield Baptist Church, Springfield, TN (June 11, 1995-December 30, 2000).

Born on September 21, 1956, Jimmy is a native of Cadiz, KY. He graduated from Trigg County High School in 1975 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Religious Studies and a minor in History from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY, in 1979. He earned the Master of Divinity degree in 1982 and the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1993 from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.

In addition to the Springfield church, Jimmy served as pastor of Lewis Lane Baptist Church, Owensboro, KY (April 16, 1987-June 10, 1995); Greenwood Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY (July 1, 1983-April 15, 1987); and Emmanuel Baptist Chapel, mission of First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY (November 15, 1976-June 30, 1983). He was also Minister to Youth at Edgewood Baptist Church, Hopkinsville, KY (Summer 1976).

He is active in the Carrollton Ministerial Alliance, serving as its President from 2006-08. He also serves on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, is a Volunteer On-Call Chaplain at Tanner Medical Center, and a Volunteer Chaplain for Hospice. He served on the Development Team and Steering Committee of the Community Resource Network of the Community Foundation of West Georgia. He has also served on the Coordinating Council for the CBF of Georgia, acting as chairperson of its Missions Committee (2004-07). He served a three-year term of service on the National Coordinating Council of the CBF, acting as chairperson of the Fellowship Advance Committee and Initiative and also on the Advisory Council two of those years (2007-10). He served as a member of the Commission on Baptist Worship and Spirituality and the Church Health and Effectiveness Work Group of the Baptist World Alliance, from 2007-09.

Jimmy writes an occasional column for the Times-Georgian, the daily newspaper of Carrollton. He enjoys reading, running in 10K road races and half-marathons, watching college and high school baseball, basketball, and football, watching figure skating, working in the yard, writing, and doing nothing. He writes poetry and lyrics for hymns.

Jimmy married Jacqueline Kay Miller on December 18, 1982. Jackie holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (1983) and a Master of Arts in Reading (1990) from Western Kentucky University. She is employed, part-time, by Charter Bank in Carrollton. They are blessed with two adult children: a married daughter, Emily Kay Browning, age 24, who lives with her husband, Robert, in Franklin, TN and a son, Nicholas Fisk, age 21, who is a junior at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.
